Quorn has been chosen along with 21 other sites in South Australia to temporarily house redundant cement pipes that contain asbestos.
The EPA approved SA Water’s application to store the pipes around the state in secure facilities before being taken to a waste site.
All the sites will be inspected regularly to ensure the correct storage procedures are in place with SA Water making further improvements to ensure the asbestos will be stored securely.
The license to store the materials is only short term and doesn’t allow for any treatment or processing of asbestos.
The chosen sites include Quorn, Clare, Crystal Brook, Jamestown and Kadina.
