Whyalla City Bike Track on a Roll

bike.jpgThe Whyalla City council is ticking off another milestone in its project to have walking and cycling paths around the city.
$117,000 has been allocated in the recent budget to continue the works that started back in 1997, and the next stage will mean the project will be 70% finished.
The aim is produce a safe bike and walking track for schoolchildren, commuters and recreational walkers or bike riders.
More than $1 million has been spent on the project so far with Council going dollar-for-dollar with the State Government and its State Bicycle Funding grants program or through Black Spot funding.
The council is hoping to reduce the city’s reliance on fossil fuels by promoting cycling as a form of transport for residents.
