The Northern Areas Council have partnered up with the Jamestown Apex Club to put the council’s excess water to use and sow the Apex Club Paddock with Lucerne.
The partnership will see the implementation and management of a pivot irrigation project to grow Lucerne, which can be used as an alternative source of forage for animals. The crops will then be sold off and the profit will go back into the Jamestown Community fund.
The profit for the paddock will depend on the season but is expected to return 20 to fifty thousand dollars annually.
A volunteer farmer with experience with the crop will manage the project and they hope to start sowing as soon as possible.
