A fire broke out last week at the same Whyalla home where a man was murdered only last year.
Firefighters battled the blaze at the house on McNamara Street on Wednesday evening, with the fire causing around $200 000 worth of damage to the property. Fortunately the house was unoccupied at the time and no-one was injured.
It was only around twelve months ago that a 23-year-old male was charged with the stabbing murder of a 35-year-old man in the same home.
Operations Inspector Mark Hubbard labelled the blaze as suspicious, with forensic investigators being called in from Adelaide to investigate the fire and its cause. The blaze coincided with the end of South Australia’s heatwave which saw another property in Wallaroo engulfed by flames.
