The State Government has finally gotten around to providing a solution to damaged levee, around the town of Port Germein just outside Pirie.
$58,000 will be gifted to the District Council of Mount Remarkable, who will then put that money into fixing the damaged levy outside of Port Germein.
The city is surrounded by a levee system that is designed to stop ocean waters swamping the town during a storm, but during a particularly bad king tide in 2016 one of these was swept away.
In terms of how the funding will be used to fix the levy, Deputy Chief Executive officer for council Jessie White, says it’ll go towards installing a “DefenCELL”.
That system which uses rock armor should keep the town safe from any future weather events.
