Wanted man charged after NSW police sting

A man wanted on warrants in the ACT has been charged in southern New South Wales for a clutch of further offences including drug possession and carrying an illegal firearm.

The 52-year-old, wanted in the ACT for alleged armed robbery and revocation of parole, was located after a police operation at a house in Tumut in the state's Riverina region around 7pm on Friday.

Following a lengthy negotiation, he was arrested and a home search allegedly revealed cannabis plants, a substance believed to be methamphetamine, prescription tablets, ammunition, an electronic control device, a sling shot and a quantity of cigarettes.

He has been charged with cultivate prohibited plant, two counts of possess prohibited drug, possess prohibited weapon, possess ammunition without licence, and apprehension on warrant issued in another state.

The man was refused bail to appear at Wagga Wagga Bail Court on Saturday, where extradition proceedings are expected to take place.
