In a bid to tackle regional skills shortages in housing and planning, the State Government and the Local Government Association have launched the “Grow Your Own” program, focused on training local talent and providing pathways to grow regional councils’ planning workforce.
This two-year pilot initiative will enable regional councils in Australia to support four employees in becoming qualified planners, either from existing staff or new hires.
Councils in the Spencer Gulf regions will receive $20,000 per participant over two years, split evenly between state and local governments.
Applications for the program are currently open.
