Port Pirie Regional Council has secured a Festivals Australia grant of over $45,000 for a special project at the 2023 Port Pirie SALA Winter Festival.
Out of 17 successful projects across the nation, the council’s application was the sole recipient from South Australia.
The Albanese Labor Government’s funding aims to support diverse and original arts projects that engage communities.
The project titled ‘The Salty Forest’ will explore the beauty of mangroves through site visits, photography, and art workshops.
Coordinated by illuminart Stories in Light, the artwork will be displayed on a custom-built projection piece encircling Memorial Park’s Rotunda, forming a magnificent giant lantern., enhancing the Winter Festival’s night-time activities.
Mayor Leon Stephens expressed his excitement about the unique digital show and the recognition by Minister Tony Burke.
The rotunda illumination opens on August 4, with the Winter Festival activities on August 5.
