New research released for Rural Road Safety Month has uncovered the escalating risks being taken by drivers on our rural and regional roads.
More than half of all drivers (51%) admitted to breaking rules when travelling on regional roads, like speeding (41%), using their phone (13%) and crossing a double line (11%).
Alarmingly, a quarter of drivers (25%) say they’ve struggled to stay focused due to fatigue with 1 in 5 admitting to ‘pushing on’ when they were feeling tired.
Russell White from the Australian Road Safety Foundation says the findings are a major concern at a time when the regional road toll continues to soar.
